Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Abdulrahman Abdulla Almhuairi ("BQZ", "we") collects when you use BQZ, why, and what you can do about it.

1. What we collect

• Account details: your username, your email or phone number, and your password (stored in protected form, never as plain text).
• Profile: your profile photo, bio and the settings you choose, such as private account, who can message you, and sensitive content.
• Content: your posts, stories, comments, messages, photos, videos and stickers.
• Activity: what you like, save, share and comment on. How long a post stays on your screen is used only on your phone to tune what you see, and is not sent to us.
• Safety information: reports you make or receive, accounts you block or mute, and moderation decisions.
• Device information: if you turn on notifications, your push token and phone platform (iOS or Android) are stored so we can send them; notifications never contain the text of your messages. We do not collect your advertising ID or track you across other apps.
• Date of birth: to check that you are old enough and to apply extra protections to accounts of people aged 13 to 17.
• Location: only if you allow it, your device's location. It is used to add a place to a post if you choose to, to show the places map, and to check in to the daily challenge. The challenge check-in is checked on your device only.
• Photos, video, camera and microphone: only the items you choose to post, send or record, after you give permission.

2. Why we use it

• To run BQZ: create your account, show your content, deliver your messages.
• To personalise your feed and show you relevant posts.
• To keep BQZ safe: detect spam, impersonation and harmful content, and review reports.
• To contact you: verification codes, password reset codes, and notifications you have turned on.
• To follow the law and protect our rights.

3. Who sees your information

• Other users: what you post and your profile can be seen according to your settings. Messages are seen by the people in the conversation.
• Service providers: companies that help us run BQZ, such as Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage), Resend (verification and password-reset emails), OpenAI (automatic safety checks of the photos and captions you post, to detect content that breaks our rules, and a check that a daily-challenge photo fits the day's topic), and Expo and Apple (to deliver push notifications). They may only use your data to provide their service to us.
• Translation service: if you tap Translate on a message, the text of that message is sent to MyMemory (a public translation service) to be translated. This happens only when you ask for it, after the app tells you, and nothing else is shared with it, except that, as with any internet request, it also sees your phone's IP address.
• Authorities: when the law requires it or to protect people from serious harm.
• We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads at this time.

4. How long we keep it

• While your account is active.
• If you delete your account in the app, your account and data are deleted from our live systems right away. Some copies may stay in backups until they expire (within 30 days), and we may keep limited records we are required by law to keep or need to handle abuse. If you ask us by email instead, we delete within 30 days.
• Content you sent to others in messages may remain on their devices.
• Our servers keep short-lived technical records, such as IP addresses (about 2 days), to limit login attempts and abuse.

5. Your choices and rights

• Use Settings to control who can message you, who can see your stories, whether your account is private, your sensitive content setting, and your notifications.
• You can edit your profile, delete your content, and delete your account in Settings.
• Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, move or delete your data, or object to some uses. Write to support@bqzapp.com and we will reply within 30 days.

6. Children

BQZ is for people aged 13 and over (or the higher age required where you live). We ask for your date of birth when you sign up and do not open accounts for anyone under 13. Accounts of people aged 13 to 17 start with extra protections: the account is private, and only friends can message them. Teens aged 16 and 17 can review some of these settings. If we learn that an account belongs to someone below the allowed age, we will close it and delete its data.

7. Security

We protect your data with measures such as encrypted connections and access controls. No service is perfectly secure, so use a strong password and keep it private.

8. Other countries

Our providers may store or process data in countries other than yours. We take steps to protect your data when it moves, as the law requires.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. If a change is important we will tell you in the app before it starts.

10. Location (GPS)

Location is optional. When you allow it, BQZ uses your phone's location to suggest a place for a post when you choose to tag one, to show the places map, and to check in to the daily challenge (this check happens on your device only). Only the place you attach to a post is shown to other people, never your exact position. You can turn location off at any time in your phone settings; the rest of BQZ keeps working.

11. Contacts, camera, microphone and photos

BQZ does not read your contacts in this version. If we add a feature that does (for example finding friends), we will ask your permission first and update this policy before it starts. The camera, microphone and photo library are only used when you take, record or pick something to post or send.

12. Teen accounts

For accounts of people aged 13 to 17 we turn on a private account, limit who can message them to friends, and filter offensive comments by default. Parents or guardians who have questions can write to us at the support address below.

13. Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account inside the app: Settings > Delete account. After you confirm with your password and by typing DELETE, it is deleted right away: your profile, posts, stories, comments, messages, and your files (posted photos and videos, chat photos and voice notes) are removed from our live systems, and the deletion cannot be undone. Copies in backups are cleared within 30 days. If you cannot sign in, email support@bqzapp.com from the email address (or tell us the phone number) of your account with the subject "Delete my account"; after we check the account is yours, we delete it within 30 days. You can also withdraw permissions (location, camera, microphone, photos, notifications) at any time in your phone settings.

Companies that process data for us (Supabase, Resend, OpenAI, Expo and Apple, and MyMemory for translation you request) may only use it to provide their service and must protect it.
